St. John Ambulance meets and exceeds Canadian Standards Association (CSA) guidelines. The role and responsibility of a workplace first aider is having a basic knowledge of how to recognize an injury/illness and to provide lifesaving first aid care until medical care takes over.  This course offers training in CPR for infants, children, and adults, AED and emergency situations such as choking, bleeding, asthma, and allergic reactions.  Intended for individuals in low hazard work environments. Please note: As per St. John Ambulance policy, participants must arrive on time. Participants that do not arrive within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time will not be admitted to class and must reschedule.

This program is based on the requirements of provincial legislation and competencies within NFPA 1006. The confined space entry session thoroughly covers competencies required by those who intend to enter confined spaces as part of their work duties. The second day of training adds the responsibilities for standby workers and methods of non-entry rescue.

This course is for any participant who may be required to identify and control hazards in a work environment. This interactive course is divided into three sections: hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control. Participants will learn how to identify site specific hazards for assessments and inspections, how to communicate those hazards to the crew and how to control the hazards. There will be examples of different control measures such as elimination, substitution and engineering, and focus on safe job procedures.

Principles of Safety Management is a required pre-requisite. Safety Auditor Training is a two-day course designed for individuals who will be evaluating the effectiveness of a company’s health and safety management system. Participants will be shown how to assess the current state of an organization’s safety and health program against the Certificate of Recognition (COR®) and Small Employer Certificate of Recognition (SECOR®) standards to identify specific areas of improvement.

This workshop meets the requirements of WSH legislation and is intended for workers with limited or no previous experience as flagpersons, or as the re-certification of a current flagperson. The course will provide information on employer and worker responsibilities while equipping trainees with practical procedures to control traffic. This includes safe flagging, positioning, and tools to communicate effectively with workers and the general public on Manitoba roadways. The training consists of a classroom theory portion as well as a practical portion. There are two tests, written and practical, that each must be successfully passed as a requirement to be a flagperson.
