2023 Safety & Health Week Engagement Award 

This award recognizes an organization that engages their employees and the public through safety and health initiatives, aimed at increasing awareness and preventing injury and illness in their workplace during Safety and Health Week, which runs May 1-6, 2023.

Safety and Health Week Engagement Award applicants are required to complete an online nomination form that outlines how the nominee has fulfilled the requirements of the nomination category.

What are you doing to engage your workplace during Safety and Health Week?

This year, the Manitoba Safety and Health Week Committee is launching the Safety and Health Week Engagement Award! This new award will recognize the organization that engages their employees and the public through safety and health initiatives, aimed at increasing awareness and preventing injury and illness in their workplace during Safety and Health Week, which runs May 1-6, 2023.

Get recognized beyond your workplace

The Safety and Health Week Engagement Award will be presented at The Safetys Gala in fall 2023. The winning organization will be invited to attend the event and be recognized in front of the health and safety community.

Safety and Health Week Event Ideas

Safety and Health Week activities do not need to be complicated or expensive. The Safety and Health Week events are meant to engage staff and revitalize your organizations commitment to safety in a fun way. Event ideas could include:

  • Recognition program – create a program to reward health and safety suggestions
  • Company safety calendar – create a calendar with reminders and tips
  • Workplace safety games (keeping in mind public health protocol) – conducted throughout the week
  • Announcements – develop emails, posters, and messages about the activities
  • Toolbox Talk – make your daily toolbox talks coincide with the focus of your safety awareness week.
  • Demonstrations – engage your colleagues in safety demonstrations like ergonomic principles, safe lifting, PPE inspections, workplace inspection principles, etc.
  • Promotional Items – people love free swag!
  • Incentives and Prizes – Who doesn’t like to win a prize?
  • Food – have a potluck or BBQ with a safety theme
  • Inspire – have a company executive, business owner or someone from the leadership team give a speech about their commitment to safety in the workplace.
